Provider and scope
Reader and reader.brighteng.org are provided by Sihan Teng, under the BrightEng name. These terms cover use of the app’s services and companion website. Contact the developer through the private-message channel on X for support or questions about these terms.
App Store license
For an App Store copy of Reader, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement governs the software license unless the App Store listing provides a different agreement. This page explains Reader’s use conditions and does not replace or narrow rights under that license or applicable consumer law. Apple’s applicable store terms also apply to downloading and purchasing through the App Store.
Reader is independently developed. Apple and OpenAI do not sponsor or endorse Reader. Support for Reader is provided by its developer, not by Apple or OpenAI.
Your books and use of the app
You retain your rights in the documents and notes you bring to Reader. Import or submit only material you have the right to use. Reader does not provide a bookstore, grant rights to third-party books, or give permission to bypass document protection or redistribute copyrighted material.
Use Reader lawfully. Do not use it to compromise another person’s account, bypass access restrictions, distribute unlawful content, or interfere with the app or a connected service. Keep your own backup of important documents and notes.
Optional ChatGPT connection
ChatGPT is the only connected online AI provider currently supported. AI access requires an eligible account, a working internet connection, and any permissions required by your account or workspace. Your provider’s terms, model availability, regional restrictions, and usage limits apply. Connecting an account does not guarantee access to a particular model or unlimited use.
Reader does not sell or include a ChatGPT subscription. Any price or purchase terms for Reader are those shown in its actual App Store listing; no Reader price is offered on this website. Disconnecting Reader from ChatGPT does not cancel a separate provider subscription. Manage provider purchases and account access with the provider.
AI results and availability
AI responses can be inaccurate, incomplete, mistranslated, or contain unintended spoilers. Check important statements against the original text and appropriate sources. Responses are reading assistance, not professional medical, legal, or financial advice.
Connected services can change, restrict access, or become unavailable. Reader’s compatibility with them may also change. The website’s interactive example contains preset illustrative responses; it is not a live service, account test, or guarantee of a particular answer.
Flashcards and learning features are coming soon and are not part of the currently available feature set. Roadmap descriptions are plans, not promises of a release date or a basis for purchasing an unreleased feature.
Privacy and third parties
The privacy policy explains local storage, optional text sent to OpenAI, credentials, system search, website hosting, and deletion choices. Review it before connecting an account or sharing sensitive information. Third-party sites and services operate under their own terms and policies.
Changes, stopping use, and your rights
You can stop using Reader at any time. Disconnect your ChatGPT account before uninstalling if you want to remove its locally stored credentials. Use the data-removal steps in the privacy policy for your library, notes, and backups.
We may update the app, website, and these terms as features or legal requirements change. The date above identifies the current version. Nothing in these terms excludes mandatory consumer rights, statutory remedies, or liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Software-license warranties and limitations are governed by the applicable App Store license and law.
